Our History

June 13, 1979: Bishop Kenneth Povish appoints Fr. Charles Irvin to establish a new parish in southeast Livingston County.

September 16: Masses begin at the VFW hall on Spicer Road.

October 28: our name is chosen.

March 12, 1980: Bp. Povish receives title to our building site from Mrs. Beatrice Hruska

April 11, 1981: ground breaking ceremony for the Parish Center.

November 10, 1982: Bell Tower Erected

December 5: Bishop Povish celebrates the Mass of Dedication of our new building.

May 27, 1987: Bishop Povish transfers Fr. Charlie to St. Francis Parish, Ann Arbor. Fr. Paul Cummings of St. Peter’s Parish, in Eaton Rapids, is appointed as our new pastor effective June24.

August 1, 1992: Construction of our worship space is completed.

September 13: Fr. Paul and Fr. Charlie concelebrate the Mass of Dedication of the worship space with the Bishop Povish.

May 1, 1996: Fr. Paul retires, effective June, 26. Bishop Carl Mengeling installs Fr. Timothy Krzyzaniak as our new pastor at the 9:00 a.m. Mass, Sunday, July 7.

December 12, 1996: Fr. Tim institutes the first Thursday Benediction & Adoration which later evolves into 40 hour devotions. Fr. Tim is also responsible for placement of the statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Sacred Heart in the sanctuary, St. Joseph and the Pentecost Icon in the transept, and the Pieta.

July 23, 1997: Knights of Columbus Initiation Decree, Holy Spirit Glorious Assumption Council 7891; Charter meeting on August 6.

August 15, 1997: Dedication of the Grotto to our Blessed Mother.

August, 1998: Dedication of the Memorial to the Unborn.

August 3, 1999: Fr. William Thomas is appointed as parish administrator. Fr. Tim is transferd to St. Joseph Parish, St. Johns, MI. Fr. Bill is installed as pastor in October. Fr. Bill moves the tabernacle to the center of the sanctuary and establishes a ministry to Maxey Training School.

Our school opens in 2002, beginning as only Pre-kindergarten through Grade One that first year, and grows to become Pre-K through 8th Grade in 2004.

Perpetual exposition and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament begins in 2003.

October 6, 2005: Fr. Bill is granted a leave of absence from his duties in the diocese. Fr. Steve Makranyi is appointed as our Canonical Administrator during his absence.

Sadly, Fr. Bill’s health issues increase,resulting in his death on July 23, 2007.

October, 2007: Bishop Mengeling appoints Fr. John Rocus as our new pastor. He brings with him a devotion to Saint Philomena, who is now the patron saint of our parish and school.

Holy Week 2008: the first display of the Shroud of Turin exhibit at Holy Spirit.

September 11, 2012: Dine With Jesus sculpture is erected in the Serenity Square.

June 15, 2014, Trinity Sunday: groundbreaking celebration for a new for our school.

January 10, 2015: Bishop Boyea celebrates the Mass of Dedication f or the new school building.
