OUR MUSIC MINISTRY MISSION STATEMENT
As disciples of Jesus Christ, we, the members of the music ministry of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, believe the Holy Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is celebrated in obedience to His command to “do this in remembrance of Me.” Music and singing are integral to worship. Musicam Sacram* states the main purpose of a music ministry is to “glorify God, sanctify the people, and foster participation of the faithful” at Mass through the use of music.
We commit ourselves and our ministry to this purpose by respectfully and carefully choosing music using the three judgments: liturgical, pastoral, and musical as recommended in the USCCB 2007 document “Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship.” Our musical resources will include Gregorian chant, sacred polyphony and classical music, sacred music for organ and other approved instruments, and sacred contemporary music. We will prepare and present this music with the highest degree of excellence we are capable of, always keeping in mind that the Holy Spirit, our namesake, is ever present to motivate and inspire us.
“Ministry” is defined as “to serve.” We, therefore, dedicate ourselves to serve God and the faithful of Holy Spirit Church by, not only performing music, but being ever mindful that we are worship leaders whose care and disposition in our musical choices and our comportment during Mass can have a significant impact on the worship experience of the faithful.
Come, Holy Spirit, move us and inspire us! St. Cecilia, pray for us!
