We have now entered into Ordinary Time and will remain here until Ash Wednesday when the next liturgical season of Lent begins.

This past week we celebrated the birthday of our patroness St. Philomena. We concluded the novena to our ‘lil sister asking for assistance in finding a new principal. We are now ready to advertise our need and have formed a committee to take part in the search. We will interview the candidates as they come forth. Please continue to keep this process in your prayers.

We are planning several new initiatives for the year to come. You may recall that I said I was going to inquire about a retreat opportunity for our parish at the St. Francis Retreat Center in Dewitt. Another Alpha program is about to begin, and we continue to assess how we do business here at our parish. We have gotten some interesting insights from the work of Fr. James Mallon who wrote the book called ‘Divine Renovation-Taking your Parish from Maintenance to Mission’. He’s got some great ideas as to how to improve our parish culture.

The Sts. Simon and Jude Healing Ministry will soon announce the date for a healing service reaching out on behalf of Jesus, the great physician, to those who suffer in body, mind, or spirit. As for my part, I continue to study the intricacies of deliverance and will soon be going to the third of four sessions at Mundelein seminary in Chicago.

The Music Ministry under the direction of Leo and Sheila will continue to discuss ways to grow our group, but also to bring music into our parish. So there may be some concerts coming in the next year.

And finally, as you know, we have some funding coming our way that is our part of the Bishop’s ‘Witness to Hope’ campaign. So we  may anticipate some improvements to our parish campus in the year ahead. Very soon we will have a new sign out in front of our church.

So yes, it’s going to be a big year here at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Once again, let us entrust it to God’s care as we continue our journey of faith.

Please consider committing to the Alpha program that is coming up at the end of this month. Those who attended the last one have great things to say about it. Maybe it can provide you with the booster shot your Faith needs.

Looking forward to the month of February, our movie offering will be the classic from the 1940s, Song of Bernadette, the story of the Blessed Mother’s apparition at Lourdes.

Lastly, congratulations to our students who provided artwork for the recent ‘Keep Christ in Christmas’ poster contest sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. See the first place entries for each of the three age groups below. Fr. J
